"Vinolocity Blanc" is the evolution of our Rhone inspired program, 4 barrels / 100 cases.
Harvested in stages, October 10th & 17th at an average of 22.5 brix
25% Grenache Blanc. For verve, backbone and acidity.
25% Roussanne. For mid palate and texture.
50% Viognier. For floral tones and body.
Winemakers notes: This is a fun wine to make, it builds upwards from the structure to the aromatics, somewhat reverse from typical white wines. It's very uncommon for Viognier to have much skin contact, but the conditions came together just right to allow it this vintage, and along with the aromatics of white peach it adds an intriguing herbaceous quality that reminds me of shaved Fennel. The Grenache Blanc lends notes of meyer lemon and pineapple with the Roussanne following up with a crisp asian pear and white flower element. There's some flint stone and chalk sneaking in around the edges too. Medium to light bodied but really long on the finish. This is not a big T & A / slutty Cali-Viognier blend, think more like a cross between Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc, and Vermentino, with maybe a little dash of Gruner.
We crushed 1 ton of Viognier, and cold soaked it on whole cluster for 3 days. Then basket pressed it with a half ton each of crushed, whole cluster Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. Fermented slow and cool in stainless, racked into neutral French oak barrels that were between 3 and 5 years old. No Malolactic. Alc. 13%
